Hiroshige’s Plum Garden woodblock print, titled “Plum Park in Kameido” graces the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy phone covers here. Suitable for anyone who loves the way Ando Hiroshige captured the elegance of nature.
From the One Hundred Famous Views of Edo series, the plum blossom in Japan is almost as popular as the cherry for its beauty, and this image is famous for its bold decision to put a tree right in the foreground and use mere hints for the people and garden. The tree depicted was famous in Edo and had its own name, the “Sleeping Dragon Plum” as it was many hundreds of years old at this time and put many different branches and shoots out.
Vincent Van Gogh was so inspired by this, he even did his own version of the scene!
